“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord’” (Luke 2:10-11, NRSV).
Last week, we reflected on how we are invited to adore Christ during this Advent season. This week, let us be reminded of the continual invitation to devotion and conversation with the Lord.

When Jesus was born, an angel appeared to the shepherds in the field (Lk 2:8-11). The shepherds were frightened. However, the angel told them to not be afraid and gave them the amazing news of the birth of Jesus. Just as the angel told the shepherds to not be afraid, God also invites us to not be afraid to voice our concerns to Him. In our devotion to Him, he wants us to tell Him what troubles us. God wants us to devote ourselves to Him completely.
Devotion can be found in the everyday. It is finding God in each moment. It is turning to Him in both our joyful and darkest moments. God wants us to continually turn to Him.
St. Paul wrote in the letter to the Philippians, “Rejoice in the Lord always . . . Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (4:4,6-7).
This second week of Advent, let us be reminded to devote ourselves fully to God. He wants to hear both the good and the bad. God wants us to confide in Him as we would a best friend. In fact, God delights in hearing from us.
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).
In Christ,
Lauren
